Aircraft Landing (Planes)
« on: 01 Sep 2005, 11:49:38 »
I'm probably such an idiot but I can't get AI to land aircraft (planes). Helicopters are easy but no matter what I try I can't get addon planes to land. I am trying to build a mission on Nogova where an aircraft uses a "Cycle" to fly backwards and forwards between the two airports landing and then taking off again. Can anyone help me?

Thanks  :)

It won't work because only the desert airport actually works as an airport.    The island one is just textures and objects.

Make a test missionette and give a plane a getout waypoint on the desert airport runway.   That should work.   Use a BIS plane first since many addons are faulty.
Plenty of reviewed ArmA missions for you to play

using:

plane land "land"

also works fine for this. im wondering if it would be possible to create the illusion of the plane landing by setposing it down a trajectory. it would be laggy and tedious to do but it could work.

Could someone help me with the setposing landing? (or suggest another map with two working runways)

Unfortunately, OFP does not support two working runways.  This is a game limitation.

very complicated and time consuming. any solution like this would involve some trig (i think) and some pretty involved stuff (which im not in a position to preach about). unless this is an integral part of the mission i would suggest just having the plane circling and refueling every now and then or you could replace it with a chopper which can land anywhere.

This will let you have as many working runways as you want.

That's really helpful UNN :)

But can you help me with the aircraft that fly's back and forwards between the two airports?

I have managed to work out the basic commands for ATC but I still can't work out how to make the aircraft stop on the runway for 15sec then take off and fly to the other one. (Need it to repeat constantly)

Thanks so much for everyones support

is there any way of getting a plane to land anywhere like in the middle of nowhere?

Hi,

There are a few ways to do it. But the two I think might be best, are ATC custom events or the ATC scripts called from Waypoints.

ATC Repeat Flight Script.noe
ATC Repeat Flight Waypoint.Noe

You can download the example mission here:

I have had a few more ideas on how to make this easier to setup, I will add them in the next version. Along with some proper taxing routines.

If you use the ATC addon I linked to in the previous post, it's easy enough. Just place an Invisible runway, where you want to land. IDONTNO is working on a scripts that allow you to land without using any addons. Although I'm not sure when he will be releasing it.

Cheers

I made a script that makes a plane take off from anywhere (smooth ground or straight road required).  Now I am working on one that will make a plane land anywhere (on a road or smooth ground).  I will be submitting both to the editors depot when I am done (probably in a week or two).
